My grandmother, Mary Frances Tracy, always wanted to travel and see the world (a trait I inherited). The path in her life did not lead her to many exotic places, but she read with passion and fulfilled that desire as best as she could. She tried to share unusual gourmet dinners, but with less than enthusiastic diners. Mama, owned the Bluebird Restaurant in Morristown, Indiana. The Bluebird Restaurant was a special place in this small agricultural community. There was (still is) the round table, where the farmers would come in for coffee and talk about the weather, the crops and of course politics. Most of the clientele wanted fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and sugar cream pie. And although she secretly wished she was a chef in a French Restaurant, her fried chicken and sugar cream pie were the best! The state legislature recently declared Sugar Cream Pie the official pie of Indiana. I am proud to offer Sugar Cream Pie at Marilyn's Bakery with my grandmother's secret recipe -- this is the only secret recipe we have. So enjoy a piece, and savory a bit of our family tradition.
