Welcome to Marilyn's Bakery

Harvest Fest 2008

Johnson's Farm is home to several generations and loads of history. Clark and Ethel Johnson bought the Rout 6 frontpage part of the farm in the 1940's. It connected the back of the farm where Clark grew up. Currently running the farm, market, and bakery is the 4th generation. And those are some big shoes to fill. Last fall, Grandma Ethel Johnson passed away at age 91. This Harvest Fest is a tribute to her and all of her wonderful talents. The family enjoyed farm grown vegetables and fruits all year long. Grandma, with her farm culture, "put up" all kinds of produce. Canned beans, peaches, beets, tomatoes, freezer jam, freezer corn, and much more. This 1st Harvest Fest is our attempt at preserving her talents and passing those skills along. Preserving your own foods helps keep your food costs down, reduces waste from packaging, improves your health with real ingredients, supports local farmers (or your own garden), and reduces the carbon footprint by eating local foods. Not to mention, it will taste better! We hope you have fun and learn a little. Enjoy great food!

Farm Culture is Dedicated to Sustainability

Sustainable living is the practice of a lifestyle which will continue to support the surrounding environment. The farm culture is an example of that living. By using crop rotation, integrated pest management, and eating local, inseason produce supports a system for generations to come. Additionally as businesses we are dedicated to recycling as much as we can, and composting much of our natural waste. Marilyn's Bakery is working toward being a "Green Certified" restraunt. Changes we have made recently to further this goal are: organic cotton t-shirts for staff, printing brochures on 100% recycled paper, replacing styrofoam with a biodegradable option, switching plastic packaging to biodegraable options, replacing plastic samples with washable wares at the farmer's markets, storing farm growth rhubarb, and storing Indiana grown blueberries. Watch our website for our next stage of changes. Share with us your concerns and your successes with your transformations. We are all in this together.
