Johnson’s Farm Produce is truly a family farm community. We are now under management of the third generation, raising the forth. We offer a variety of homegrown vegetables, strawberries, bedding plants and now gifts and bakery goods. Over the years we have adjusted our product line to fulfill the latest trends and needs of our customers.

Clark and Ethel Johnson moved to the farm on Route 6 in the early 1940’s. They started their business by selling dressed chickens from the back door of their house, and eggs, potatoes and corn from under the trees along the side of the house. In 1954 they started the market selling a variety of items. The entire family was part of the business: Marilyn helped in the market, Rod and Dick worked in the field, and young Tom helped sort eggs.

The business continued to grow as the family grew. Soon the market needed to be expanded as Rod and his new wife, Ginny took over the business.

During the late 70’s and 80’s the business became known as “The Strawberry Farm”, growing into one of the largest producers in the Midwest.

Again as more family members joined up, expansion was necessary. Marilyn came back “home” and opened a bakery in 1986.

Rod’s children Jennifer and Rod Jr. completed their education and used their new expertise to expand the lawn and garden center of the business in 1991. The market was remodeled and the new bakery was built in 1999. Johnson’s added a second location on Route 30, run by Steve Johnson. Marilyn’s daughter, Barbara, came home to help with the bakery.

The Johnson tradition is truly one of community and family. We have created an environment for our families to grow. The third generation is now running the businesses, as we raise our children and future business owners. Our home is the farm, this town and this community. Hobart is our kind of town.
