The Farm Culture

Sustainable living is the practice of a lifestyle which will continue to support the surrounding environment. The farm culture is an example of that living. By using crop rotation, integrated pest management, and eating local, inseason produce supports a system for generations to come. Additionally, we are dedicated to recycling as much as we can, and composting much of our natural waste. Marilyn's Bakery is working toward being a "Green Certified" restraunt. Changes we have made recently to further this goal are: organic cotton t-shirts for staff, printing brochures on 100% recycled paper, replacing styrofoam with a biodegradable option, switching plastic packaging to biodegraable options, replacing plastic samples with washable wares at the farmer's markets, storing farm growth rhubarb, and storing Indiana grown blueberries. Watch our website for our next stage of changes. Share with us your concerns and your successes with our transformations. We are all in this together.

Over the years we have recieved many questions as to the best practices of food preservation. We are happy to be able to provide you with links to the National Center for Home Food Preservation! The NCHFP is the ultimate source for all of your preservation questions. You will notice that techniques for preservation have changed over the decades in order to insure you and your family's health. We strongly encourage you to take a look at their site before you begin your preservation process this year!
